About

About Us

The UC Nature is a network of natural areas throughout California that support university-level teaching, research, and public service. The Ecological Preserve is a 62-acre parcel of coastal sage scrub and grassland habitat managed by the University of California, Irvine. The mission of the UC Nature is to contribute to the understanding and wise management of the Earth.

Research

Research

The Ecological Preserve is a protected space where scientists can perform research on topics such as: climate change, endangered species and habitats, and the wildland urban interface.

Education

Education

The Ecological Preserve acts as an outdoor classroom for hundreds of students annually. Students are brought to the preserve to learn about the local ecosystem and participate in research and restoration projects.

Public Service

Community engagement plays an integral part in the management of the preserve. UCI Nature often holds volunteer events for anyone who is interested in getting involved. We hold public service projects with students of all ages.
